Sunac Cultural Tourism City in Jinan officially opened on May 29th, 2021, featuring the star attraction “Flying Over the Silk Road,” a flying theatre ride that has garnered significant attention both within and outside the industry.
The project utilizes an LED dome screen for the flying theatre ride. The tourist cabin is fixed to a multi-degree-of-freedom suspended platform capable of simulating flight movements. Combined with 8K resolution special films, visitors dive, drop, tilt, and turn to achieve a completely immersive viewing experience that provides a realistic sensation of flight.
The flying theatre ride employs an independent cabin format: the first level has two cabins, while the second and third levels have three cabins each. Each cabin carries 8 people, with a maximum single-session capacity of 64 passengers.
“Flying Over the Silk Road” is not Huarun's first flying theatre ride project; the company has accumulated over ten years of experience in this field. This equipment incorporates numerous technical improvements and optimizations, resulting in superior performance, a stronger experience, and greater stability.
Flying Theatre Technical Analysis
Visuals and Audio
The project features an 8K resolution LED dome screen with a 20-meter diameter and seamless splicing. A multi-channel high-end audio system provides spatial rendering.
Motion Platform
A suspended servo-driven motion platform pushes passenger seats into the massive high-definition dome. The smooth motion platform system synchronizes actions with the film plot to present various intense flight forms.
Immersive Effects
Tourists travel through the scenery of the Silk Road, enhanced by water spray, scents, and natural wind effects for an unparalleled immersive experience.
Motion Core
The core of the flight equipment consists of a driving mechanism and motion platform at the top beam of the cabin, entirely controlled by servos. The structure and control algorithms were independently researched and developed by Huarun, earning related invention patents.
Independent Cabins
Compared to overall-lifting or flipping designs, the independent cabin flying theatre ride offers a more competitive cost and flexible operation. Each cabin has an independent control system coordinated by a central control. Operators can choose to open all or any number of cabins based on peak or off-peak traffic.
Safety Gates
Safety gates at the front of the cabin are linked to the cabin's movement. The cabin can only push forward when the gate is fully open and the central control receives a position signal. The gate only closes once the system detects the cabin has returned to the passenger platform.
Passenger Safety
Every visitor has an independent safety restraint device. If any safety signal is lost during operation, the cabin stops immediately, returns the motion platform to the zero position, and moves back to the boarding area while the safety gate closes to ensure absolute safety.
Installation Efficiency
This project pioneered a model of factory testing followed by full-machine shipping and installation. Lifting eight cabins on-site took only three days, which improved stability and significantly reduced the on-site workload compared to shipping individual parts.
Rigorous Testing
The cabins underwent strict testing, including the 80-hour continuous durability test required for national inspections, a 600-hour full/partial load operation test, and a 60-hour manned pressure test. The equipment remained safe and stable, meeting all requirements for the park opening.
